The fully automatic battery charging converters for special vehicles, motorhomes and boats were developed to charge supply batteries (RV batteries) with lead-acid, lead-gel or lead-AGM technology while travelling in accordance with the latest standards.
In contrast to conventional cut-off relays, the charging voltage is increased to compensate for losses in the case of long supply cables or insufficient cable cross-sections, depending on the charging specification. These charging converters ensure the well-known high quality of battery charging of the VOTRONIC chargers, even while driving.
The intelligent microprocessor charging control with "IU1oU2" charging characteristics and dynamic charging time calculation automatically enables fast and gentle full charging and subsequent 100 % charge retention of the connected batteries from any state of charge.
At the same time, the supply of 24 V consumers connected in parallel is guaranteed, while overcharging or excessive gassing of the batteries is avoided even on extremely long journeys.
The charging converters of the "IUoU" series are characterised by their compact design, their low weight (high-frequency switch mode technology) and their powerfully dimensioned power components. This ensures full charging power even with long charging cables and strong voltage fluctuations at the starter battery, for example in vehicles that comply with the Euro 6 standard.
- The charging voltage is free of peaks and regulated in such a way that the batteries cannot overcharge.
- Fully automatic operation via switching input (ignition, engine running) and voltage control
- The automatic, adjustable power control enables priority charging of the starter battery by the alternator in the event of an overloaded vehicle network, thus ensuring that the vehicle can be started immediately.
- No discharge (current 0.000 A) of the batteries during standby or when the charging converter is switched off.
- Parallel and buffer operation: The battery continues to be charged or is kept fully charged when the vehicle is being used at the same time. The charging converter automatically calculates and monitors the adjustment of the charging times.
- Monitoring-free charging: protection against overload, overheating, overvoltage, short circuit, reverse polarity at the output, malfunction and battery back-discharge through electronic cut-off up to complete disconnection of the charging converter and battery through built-in safety switches.
- Galvanic isolation between input and output: absolute separation of the battery circuits even in the event of a fault and clean earth conditions even with long supply cables. Particularly important when charging 24 V systems from 12 V system voltage.
- Charging cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically compensated for.
- Charging aid for deeply discharged batteries: Gentle charging of the battery from 0 V to 16 V, then powerful support for the battery if consumers are still switched on.
- Built-in on-board filter: Problem-free parallel operation with solar systems, wind and petrol generators, mains chargers, etc. on one battery.
- Temperature compensation: Automatic adjustment of the charging voltage to the battery temperature by means of an external temperature sensor (322/898). Improves the full charge of the weaker battery in cold weather and prevents unnecessary battery gassing in summer temperatures. Highly recommended if the battery(ies) is/are exposed to strong temperature fluctuations, e.g. in the engine compartment or storage compartment.
Charging programmes
1 "Gel": Charging programme for gel batteries, characteristic curve IU1oU2. Adapted to sealed, gas-tight gel/dryfit batteries with fixed electrolyte, which generally require a higher charging voltage level and longer U1 holding times in order to achieve short charging times with particularly high capacity storage and to avoid long-term battery "starvation".
2 "AGM": Charging programme for AGM batteries, characteristic curve IU1oU2. Intended for charging sealed, gas-tight AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries in lead-AGM technology, which require a particularly high U1 level with coordinated holding times for full charging and then a moderate U2 level for charge retention (plate and round cell technology).
4 "UNIVERSAL": Charging programme for lead-acid/wet/AGM batteries, characteristic curve IU1oU2. Universal programme for charging and maintaining the charge of acid batteries in vehicles (mixed mobile/stationary). With a medium U1 level, still offers short charging times, a good charge factor and good acid mixing for open and closed, low-maintenance, maintenance-free standard, traction, lighting, solar and heavy-duty batteries as well as AGM batteries with a normal U1 level.
Li "LiFePO4": Charging programme for lithium batteries, characteristic curve IU1oU2. Charging programme tailored to lithium LiFePO4 batteries with their own BMS and mandatory or built-in protective circuitry.
Scope of delivery: temperature sensor, operating instructions
